This is the Friday that we all hate the most, because we’re so close to pay day, yet so damn far. Undoubtedly this weekend will see you push your bank balance to its limit, leaving you with lentils and some soggy coriander for dinner every night next week. But it’s not all doom and gloom! This week’s Friday digest is filled with heart-warming, uplifting and just-so-stupid-you-have-to-smile stories that might have passed you by this week. And don’t worry, all of the content in this digest is completely gag-free #WhoIsPJS

On Monday this week, we learnt of Evie, the African Grey parrot who had escaped from her home in Staffs and gotten a bit lost. Evie was sitting on the shoulder of her owner, Peter Jackson, when she suddenly took off in flight. Peter was naturally devastated, but just had to trust that Evie would return home to him eventually. And he was right! After a few hours, Evie got lost and tried to hail a cab home (we are literally so happy this is a true story.) She flew in to the taxi of Peter Knight (she’s got a thing for Pete’s, huh?) and greeted him. Unfortunately she couldn’t remember her address, but thanks to the power of social media, Evie was reunited with her owner soon after meeting her saviour taxi driver.

Who can be bothered to wait for a lift, or stand on the escalator, or god FORBID take the stairs a whole five storeys?! The Printemps has installed a giant 60 metre (200ft) long slide that goes from their fifth floor to the ground floor. The slide takes 16 seconds to go down and will be open to the public very soon, but for now only VIPs have access. Feedback includes ‘my hands went numb’ ‘I was terrified, think of the children’ and other such positive things…

This week saw the release of a set of new stamps to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday. Featuring on one of these stamps is none other than the nation’s favourite cutie, Prince George. The full portrait shows tiny George standing on a box so his head will be level with the rest of the family, and it really is a beautiful photograph. But this is the 21st century, and this is the internet, so even the loveliest photos can be hijacked and turned in to something equally hilarious and horrifying at once. We present to you the face swap of Queen Lizzie and young George. Make of it what you will…

There’s nothing we love more than kids dreams coming true, especially when they are so humble and beautiful. You may remember a photo circulating recently of a young boy in tears because he met his heroes, the bin men. Well, the young un’s have only gone and done it again. Brooklyn Andracke dreamed of meeting the bin man who drives past her house every Thursday and honks the horn at her to say hello, and on Thursday, she finally got her chance. On her birthday this week, Brooklyn baked a cupcake for her bin man and proudly presented it to him outside her house so he could celebrate her birthday with him. There are not enough As and Ws in the world for the n’aaawwww this story deserves.

And now it’s Friday. Take time to listen to Purple Rain and watch some Dinner Ladies when you get home from work tonight before you get in gear for the weekend. Don’t have plans yet? Check out our guide of things to do this weekend.
With lunch,
